You might have heard that California is on fire lately in the news. Some of you might be evacuating from your homes. While others are becoming second-hand smokers do to all the smoke in the air.
Luckily, we are the latter, I am very excepting of the perpetual scratchy throat and dry eyes over my house burning to a crisp. It brought to the forefront of my mind though, what would happen if my home were in the sight lines of an out of control wildfire? What would be our exit strategy, what would we bring with us, where would we go?
My In-laws live a couple hours away and my kids would be more than happy to 'vacation' at grammas forever, if given the chance.
What would I bring with me? I sat and pondered this thought for a moment. Imitating Pooh Bear in the classic children's stories. "Think, think, think," as I poked my index finger at my forehead as Pooh Bear classically does every time he comes to a crossroad.
Nothing really came to mind. Everything is replaceable. Even important documents can be re-ordered from the state or title companies. Clothes, Books, toys, shoes can all be re-purchased. Pictures are all uploaded to the cloud. All the jewelry I own is on my one finger. The only thing I really wanted was a weeks worth of underwear in case we were stuck living in our car or worse
I do how every have little 'to go' bags ready in case anything does happen. My sister wisely said, "there's a Target in every town, ours isn't special. You can pretty much re-buy your whole house there." It's absolutely true, all things of this world are material. Only when we turn to God, are we completely fulfilled.
So, as I sat, as Pooh Bear does, I decided to put those thoughts in God's hands. The conclusion I came to, is that, as long as I had my family, the dog and even Alfonso, the snake, in the car ready to go. I would leave the rest in God's hands.
Now, this is to say, when the fire is on my doorstep! Knowing now that California is a tinder box, I am slowly scanning things to my computer and then to an "iCloud" type file. BUT>>>> As a mom with a zillion things already to get to>>> I'm Hoping my Guardian Angel is sitting guard on my doorstep with his Spiritual Water Tanker ready to go!!
